Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund o RCEF ng Department of Agriculture – Philippine Rice Research Institute o DA-PhilRice Isabela, in partnership with City Agricultural Services Office-Tabuk, held a techno-demo field walk and Abonong Swak campaign in Tabuk City, Kalinga last July 07.

It was joined by 112 farmers from Brgy. San Julian, Cabaruan, Laya East and West, Tabuk City. Showcased during the activity were the importance and benefits of using a drum seeder for crop establishment.

They were also briefed on effective microorganism activated solution (EMAS) as source of beneficial microorganisms that condition and strengthen soil, plant, and animal health.

The Abonong Swak campaign highlights the significance of combining organic and inorganic fertilizer to reduce production cost while ensuring a good yield. Following the Abonong Swak strategy, farmers could save as much as P2,000-4,000/ha. (DA-PhilRice Isabela, FB)
