The Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization (PHilMech) is stepping up its mechanization efforts by signing a memorandum of agreement (MOA) for the Rice Processing System (RPS) II with the City Local Government Unit (CLGU) of San Carlos held in San Carlos, Pangasinan on July 29, 2024.

The RPS II is distributed under the Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund (RCEF) Mechanization Program of PHilMech. It aims to reduce postharvest losses, improve the quality of milled rice, and increase the use of mechanization in the province.

The new facility includes two units of mechanical dryers with a drying capacity of 12 tons per batch and one unit of a multi-stage rice mill with a milling capacity of 2 to 3 tons per hour, valued at Php 64 million.

The MOA signing was led by PHilMech Director III Joel V. Dator and City Mayor Julier C. Resuello, with Congresswoman Camille Villar representing Chair of the Senate Agriculture and Food Committee Cynthia Villar, PHilMech-FMFOD Chief Mayville B. Castro, DA-RED representative Marvin Quillates, Ph.D., City Vice Mayor Joseres S. Resuello, rice farmers, and other government officials as witnesses.
