Day 3 of the Training of Trainers on Basic Course on Inbred Rice Seed Production and Certification for the Seed Growers in Region XII and BARMM (Batch 3) in ATI-RTC XII, San Felipe, Tantangan, South Cotabato.

Mr. Jayson V. Abang, RCEF Technical Staff discussed the Palay Key Check no. 7: Pest Management.

In his presentation, Mr. Abang highlighted the principles of Integrated Pest Management and the importance of addressing crop damage caused by pests. He advised participants to opt for crop varieties resistant to prevalent pests, adopt synchronous planting practices, regularly monitor fields, and preserve beneficial organisms for long-term and cost-effective pest management.

Mr. Normuhaymin B. Arsad, CFIDP Technical Staff, provided a comprehensive session on Key Checks 8 and 9, the significance of timely crop harvesting, and the essential aspects of post-harvest practices, such as drying, cleaning, and storing grains and the proper use of fertilizer materials.

Moreover, Ms. Marjie D. Lastimoso, Agriculturist II of BPI- NSQCS, thoroughly discussed Seed Certification according to the Bureau of Plant Industry—National Seed Quality Control Services (BPI-NSQCS). She highlighted the crucial regulations and standards that oversee the certification of inbred rice seeds, along with the specific criteria required in the certification procedures.
Ms. Shirley Balidiong, Project Assistant II of BPI-NSQCS, also discussed the crucial elements of field inspection and highlighted key points for consideration.
