The Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization (PHilMech) and the provincial local government unit (PLGU) of Sorsogon signed a memorandum of agreement on the establishment of two Rice Processing System (RPS) I facilities under the Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund (RCEF) Mechanization Program today, July 7, 2023 in Juban, Sorsogon.

The MOA signing was led by PHilMech Interim Director Joel V. Dator and Governor Jose Edwin “Boboy” Hamor, with Acting Chief of FMFOD Engr. Mayville B. Castro and Luzon C cluster head Engr. NiΓ±o D. Bengosta as witnesses.

The two units of RPS I were expected to benefit the two municipalities of the province, namely, Juban and Gubat, Sorsogon.

Facilities under RPS I consist of two units of mechanical dryers with 6-ton drying capacity per batch and a state-of-the-art rice mill with 1.5-ton milling capacity per hour worth Php16 million each.

As of today, PHilMech has already delivered 573 units of various agricultural machinery in the province under the 2019–2023 fund amounting to Php301.6 million.

A total of 123 farmers’ cooperatives and associations (FCAs) and local government units (LGUs) have already benefited from the program. (FB, DA-PHilMech)
