The 19th batch of 11-day Training of Trainers program on the Production of High-Quality Inbred Rice and Seeds, and Farm Mechanization under the Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund (RCEF), concluded today, October 12, 2023, leaving behind a group of 30 enthusiastic and well-prepared farmer leaders ready to empower the rice farming community.

This comprehensive training, which ran from October 2 to October 12, 2023, saw the collaboration of several prominent partner agencies, making it a resounding success. The main partner, the Villar SIPAG Foundation, joined hands with PHilMech (Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization), PhilRice (Philippine Rice Research Institute), LBP Nueva Ecija Lending Center, TESDA (Technical Education and Skills Development Authority), BPI-NSQCS (Bank of the Philippine Islands – National Seed Quality Control Services), DA RFO 3 Regional Crop Protection Center, and the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist of Nueva Ecija. Furthermore, Felisidro Farm and Gerry’s Integrated Farm contributed significantly to the training program’s success.

The graduation ceremony, which marked the culmination of the 11-day event, was graced by the presence of Dr. Jovita Agliam, the Officer-in-Charge of the Provincial Agriculturist Office. Dr. Agliam delivered an inspiring message to the graduating farmer leaders and future trainers. She highlighted the critical role they will play in the development of the local agricultural sector and emphasized the importance of adopting a facilitative approach when delivering extension services to fellow farmers. In her address, she shared a touching story that underscored the age-old wisdom that “honesty is still the best policy.” Dr. Agliam’s words resonated deeply with the participants, emphasizing the significance of integrity in their future roles.

The training was managed by a dedicated team, composed of staff from the ATI-RTC 3 RCEF and Rice Program. Mr. Jayson S. Baldoz, the project officer, along with taskforce members Ms. Reinalyn C. Gulen, Ms. Lily D. Dela Cruz, Ms. Mariel B. Baldoz, Ms. Frevalyn Atienza, and Mr. Jan Limuel C. Guevarra, ensured that the program was executed smoothly and efficiently.

As a result of this intensive and collaborative effort, the graduating farmer leaders are now equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to contribute to the enhancement of rice production, seed quality, and farm mechanization through the existing farm schools. Their commitment to the development of the agricultural sector is expected to have a significant impact on Central Luzon’s rice industry, ultimately improving the livelihoods of local farmers.

The successful conclusion of the 11-day Training of Trainers is a testament to the power of partnership and the dedication of individuals and organizations working towards agricultural excellence. With their newly acquired expertise and Dr. Jovita Agliam’s inspirational words in their hearts, the future trainers are poised to make a positive difference in the lives of farmers across Central Luzon.
