Day 2 of the Training on Basic Course on Inbred Rice Seed Production and Certification for the Seed Growers.

Mr. Jayson V. Abang, Rice Specialist and RCEF-technical staff, discussed the importance of identifying Rice Crop growth phases and stages. Identifying these phases and stages is essential for local farmers to optimize management practices, predict harvest time accurately, detect crop issues early, and enhance crop quality.

Furthermore, Mr. Abang also discussed the following topics:
-Overview of the Palay Check System
-Key Check 1: Variety and Seed Selection
-Key Check 3: Crop Establishment and;
-Key Check 6: Water Management

Mr. Normuhaymin B. Arsad discussed Key check no. 2: Land Preparation. In his presentation, he stated that “A well-leveled field is a pre-requisite to good water and better crop management.”
Additionally, Engr. Jun Rey L. Samillano, Agriculturist II and OIC- PAS Chief, discussed Key Check no. 4: Sufficient number of healthy seedlings and Key Check no. 5: Nutrient Management.
The Palay Check system is a valuable tool that benefits rice farmers by providing them with essential guidance, knowledge, and support to optimize their farming practices, increase productivity, improve profitability, and promote environmental sustainability in rice cultivation.
