Under the leadership of PHilMech Director Dionisio G. Alvindia, a huge stride towards agricultural modernization unfolded as the Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization (PHilMech) inaugurated a multi-million Rice Processing System (RPS 1) in the municipal local government units (MLGUs) of Quezon and Solano, in Nueva Vizcaya, today, November 29, 2023.

These municipalities received Php36M worth of postharvest facilities, with two units of 6-ton mechanical dryers and a 1.5 ton/h multi-stage rice mill each.

Director III Joel V. Dator and FMFOD Acting Chief Mayville B. Castro graced the occasion with their insight and support. Additionally, the event was honored by the presence of Atty. Jose V. Gambito, Governor, Province of Nueva Vizcaya, Hon. Dolores B. Binwag, Municipal Mayor Quezon, Nueva Vizcaya and Atty. Philip A. Dacayo, Municipal Mayor, Solano, Nueva Vizcaya, Hon. Luisa L. Cuaresma, Representative, Lone District of Nueva Vizcaya, Dir. Rose Mary G. Aquino, OIC Regional Executive Director, DA-RFO II, underscoring the collaborative effort and dedication towards leveling up Philippine Agriculture.

Director Dator, explained the significance of these rice processing systems stating, “Ang layunin po natin sa RPS 1 ay mapaganda ang kalidad ng mga bigas, ito po ay tested na at maari niyong gamitin upang makatulong sa inyo, pero kailangan po ay sumailalim muna tayo sa pagsasanay sa tamang paggamit upang ito ay magamit natin ng mas matagal na panahon.”

The inauguration of these rice processing systems signifies a paradigm shift in the local farming community, increased efficiency, improved quality, and enhanced sustainability of production. The RCEF Mechanization Program’s relentless pursuit of farm modernization is poised to redefine the future of rice processing and significantly contribute to the growth of the agricultural sector.
