Rice Specialists from Brgy. Bangcud, Malaybalay City and Luis-Sisay Farming School owners, Wilmar Ompoc and John Paul Ompoc, conduct Farmers’ Field School (FFS) in Malaybalay City.

After graduating from the 6th and 7th batch of the Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund – Rice Specialists’ Training Course (RCEF-RSTC) and Department of Agriculture – Philippine Rice Research Institute (DA-PhilRice) Agusan, the two rice specialists are currently conducting 3 batches of FFS with 25 participants per batch (a total of 75 participants) in Brgy. San Martin, Malaybalay City.

I believe that farmers should never stop learning because it is our only way to improve our livelihood as rice farmers,” Wilmar Ompoc emphasized.

While this is not the first FFS that the family-owned farming school has conducted, this is the first FFS where both Wilmar and John Paul served as resource speakers after graduating from the season-long RCEF RSTC in Remedios T. Romualdez, Agusan del Norte.

To be a rice specialist is a privilege. I will never stop sharing all the learnings I’ve acquired with my co-farmers,” Wilmar added as he shared his hopes for his participants to also pass on their learnings to everyone who needs them, especially to the future generation of rice farmers.
